Elliott Design’s Feng Shui
Feng Shui means living in harmony with the world. Our work spaces are crucial to the quality of work we produce. It is difficult to accomplish any task, and produce quality work if the space you are working in is working against you. While Elliott Design does not technically practice the Feng Shui philosophy, it serves as a good metaphor for our recent office renovation. The Elliott Design office has had a dramatic face lift. Here is a quick update on our current set-up, and how it differs from the old set-up
The office used to be comprised of a few desks a couple lamps and a plant. Each employee has always had their own space in the office. My old desk was filled to the very limits it could hold. In the image below you can see a laptop, a monitor, a drawing pad, a stack of notebooks, drawing pads, and regular books, pens, pencils, my camera and who knows what else might be buried in there.
Old work space. (about 20 sq. ft) It looks confined and limiting:
We had a major change. It was a team effort. Sales, marketing, and designers all joined together to complete our new set-up.
Set-up mid way through:
Close up of the new furniture:
Today, the workspaces have a much different feeling to them.
Our current set-up:
Empty workspace:
They are commodious, they allow much more storage, and an infinitely more leg room.
New work space (around 52 sq. ft) It is more open, there is more room to think and breathe:
On my end of the office, we have (roughly) 52 sq ft of space and a third of it is desk space.Everything I need to be an efficient designer /employee of Elliott Design, Inc. has its own place now.
Everyone is very happy with the new set-up. Our productivity is going up, and the office is feeling more and more inspiring each day.
